Patio Awning
Choosing the right kind of patio awning for your
home
Now that you have decided to get more
use out of your patio, the time has come to determine what type
of covering will be the best match for your lifestyle. Perhaps
you should consider the several types of patio
awning currently on the market.
A good old-fashioned mainstay is the stationary patio
awning. This type of awning can be customer ordered to cover a
portion or all of your patio area. As an example, you could
have one portion covered to allow for a great place to sit
outside without being in the sun, and leave a section open for
the pool or a sunbathing area. Stationary awnings are usually
easy to maintain and can be cleaned with the same types of
products you use to wash the exterior of your home.
One very popular option is an electronic retractable patio
awning. Installed directly on the side of the house facing the
patio area, this type of awning does not require support posts
around the perimeter of the area to be covered. The unit can be
extended or retracted by pushing a button. One of the obviously
great things about a retractable unit is that should a sudden
rain come up while your family is enjoying a meal on the patio,
there is no need to grab everything and seek shelter in the
house. Simply activate the patio awning, and allow it to extend
over the food and games. Then keep right on having fun.
If you prefer to not add one more electrical device onto
your existing household wiring, there are retractable patio
awnings that are available with a manual extend and retract
mechanism. Typically, this involves a crank, not unlike the
window cranks that were so popular on windows back in the
1960's. On most models, the crank systems do not require a
great deal of arm strength, so anyone in the family should be
able to work the mechanism.
Varying in price, one of these three options may be ideal
for you. Looking into each one and select the patio
awning that works best for you.
